Of course, some fields of medicine will always be highly sought after. We will simply get fewer applicants because at least some interest in those fields is contingent on the salary. By paying some of these fields a little less, we immediately change the supply/demand equation, and we won't need blunt methods to weed out hundreds of competent and otherwise excellent applicants.
